The Town of Barnstable invites interested individuals to attend an informational meeting to discuss how the Hyannis Water System is addressing PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) contamination in its water supply.

The informational session will be held:

IN-PERSON on Wednesday, June 18, 2025 at 7:00 PM
Location: James H. Crocker Jr. Hearing Room, Town Hall, 367 Main Street, Hyannis, MA 02601

Topics to be discussed include PFAS contamination and community concerns; monitoring and treatment to maintain water quality; PFAS contamination sources and status of response actions; future directions and recommendations.

PFAS are widely used, long-lasting chemicals, components of which break down very slowly over time. Due to their widespread use and persistence in the environment, many PFAS are found in the blood of people and animals across the globe and are present at low levels in a variety of food products and within the environment. The Hyannis Water System proactively addresses PFAS contamination at each of its wellheads, utilizing carbon filtration units.

The discussion will be led by James F. Begley, Principal of MT Environmental Restoration and Licensed Site Professional (LSP) in Massachusetts, and will provide an opportunity for questions from the public. For those unable to attend, the meeting will be recorded and available for streaming via Barnstable Government Access (https://streaming85.townofbarnstable.us/CablecastPublicSite/?channel=1) as well as posted to the Barnstable Water Resources website: https://barnstablewaterresources.com/
