A contractor for the Town of Barnstable, Robert B. Our Co. Inc, is scheduled to begin pump station site preparation activities for the Route 28 West Sewer Expansion Project on Monday, January 26, 2026.
This work will include tree clearing, material delivery, and preparation of the following pump station sites:
- 418 Bumps River Road, Osterville
-
- Cape Cod Collaborative School Property
- 2095 Main Street, Marstons Mills
- Along Route 28, within the former Marstons Mills Elementary School Property
- Across from the Intersection of Concord Lane and Osterville-West Barnstable Road
Work will occur Monday through Friday from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM, weather permitting. This work will primarily be off-road, but temporary lane narrowing may be necessary at times to provide an adequate and safe work zone. This portion of work is anticipated to take 2-3 weeks to complete, and construction of the pump stations is anticipated to begin later this year.
This project is a critical component of the Town’s Comprehensive Wastewater Management Plan (CWMP), serving as part of the backbone of future sewer expansion into the Three Bays and Popponesset Bay Watersheds. The Town-wide, state approved, science-based plan aims to protect Barnstable’s coastal waters, ponds, and drinking water by managing nutrient pollution from wastewater. On October 29, 2025, the Town hosted an informational meeting about the CWMP and the Route 28 West Sewer Expansion Project. A recording of the meeting, along with additional materials, can be accessed at BarnstableWaterResources.com/Oct25MeetingRecap.
Property owners who are identified as receiving sewer along this project route have been contacted by mail and will be kept informed as construction progresses.
