Throughout the week of March 16, 2026, multiple work zones and associated traffic pattern modifications will be implemented across the Town of Barnstable to facilitate ongoing sewer construction related to the Centerville Village Sewer Expansion Project – North Phase and Route 28 West Sewer Expansion Project.
Residents and motorists should be aware of the following construction activities:
NEW: Overnight Construction on Route 28, Centerville
Beginning the evening of Monday, March 16, overnight sewer construction will resume along a portion of Route 28. Route 28 is expected to be closed between Phinney’s Lane and Old Stage Road during construction hours, Monday through Thursday nights, from 7:00 PM to 6:00 AM. Traffic patterns may shift slightly as work progresses.
NEW: Daytime Closure on a Portion of Bumps River Road, Osterville
Beginning, Monday, March 16, a portion of Bumps River Road, Osterville, will be closed between Osterville-West Barnstable Road and Pond Street during construction hours, Monday through Friday, from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
NEW: Daytime Closure on a Portion of Old Stage Road, Centerville
Beginning mid-week, on Wednesday, March 18, a portion of Old Stage Road will be closed between Route 28 and Great Marsh Road during construction hours, Monday through Friday, from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
Daytime Closure on Phinney’s Lane, from Route 28 to Main Street, Centerville
Sewer construction will continue along a portion of Phinney’s Lane. Phinney’s Lane will be closed between Route 28 and Main Street, Centerville, during construction hours, Monday through Wednesday, from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Following the completion of this portion of work, Phinney’s Lane is anticipated to reopen to normal traffic on Thursday, March 19.
Daytime Closure on Shootflying Hill Road, Centerville
Sewer construction will continue along Shootflying Hill Road. Shootflying Hill Road will be closed between Service Road and Great Marsh Road during construction hours, Monday through Friday, from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
Access will be maintained at all times for residents, businesses, and emergency services. Businesses will remain open during normal operating hours. Traffic control personnel will be onsite to assist motorists and guide drivers safely through the work zones. Motorists are urged to plan for additional travel times, use caution, and follow posted detour and safety signage when traveling in the area.
